Dark Moon has quickly become a favorite event for players of all sizes. Our original article on this game mode covered the early days when Dark Moon was still in Beta Mode. The game has evolved somewhat since then. Today this guide will look at some strategies you can use in Dark Moon as well as what the game looks like currently when it comes to this game mode. There are a lot of different factors that play into this event so buckle up and be prepared to dive in.

What is Dark Moon?

We are going to try to give you a quick run-down of what Dark Moon is, and important things to know. For those of you who are newer, Dark Moon, or the Sanctum Race takes place on the Dark Moon (go figure). In this game mode it is a race to the middle and to see who can obtain the most points by the end of the event. There are various methods to gain points within this game mode from Research to killing troops to owning territories. Along the way, there are prizes to help keep your team going as well. However, before we get too in over our heads let’s start from the beginning.

What is a Territory?

A Territory consists of a Dark Moon Temple, Magic Tower, or the Impenetrable fortress. To claim a territory as your own you must hold the territory for 15 minutes or be the last one holding when the clock runs out.

Once you own a territory you can then move to territories that touch it, the best way to find those is using the bubbles that surround the tower or temple. However, the ultimate goal of Dark Moon is to meet various Victory Achievements and gain points. Conquering Territories is just one way to do this.

What are Victory Achievement Conditions?

In this screenshot, you can see the various points of different alliances and some of the targets available. When you scroll the list of Targets you will find things such as Power from Construction, Power from Research, Owning x number of level y Territories, using Alliance Signets, PvP kills, Neutral Troops (the troops in unconquered territories) Kills, and many more.

Different actions have more value as the objective gets harder. As you reach various Tiers in your targets you will earn different rewards including Dark Moon Coins, for many who do not understand this, it can be easy to look past this and focus on the Inferno and Alliance Events in Dark Moon. However, if you are completing the targets in the victory conditions then the kills for those events will naturally come about.

Other Important Things to Note

We want to be sure to remind you that you buy troops using signets in Dark moon. This means that you do not actually use your own troops. You also can buy special Dark Moon boosts using signets. Signets can be bought in the Signet shop using Resources and gold. You can also get a small amount free daily. Here is the cinch, as you buy more signets they become more expensive. These boosts increase march size and stats with a bang and are only available to be used in Dark Moon.

Do not forget that throughout the whole event you will be earning Dark Moon Coins which can be used in the Dark Moon shop which is stocked with tons of goodies from pets to heroes to gear.

Ten Elite Tips for “Normal Alliances” in Dark Moon

When you are just a Normal Alliance in Dark Moon, how do you compete when you feel like the Mega Alliances have all the advantages? When the cost of signets is getting too high and the Mega Alliances can just keep going what should you do? We are going to share some of our favorite strategies for smaller alliances with you.

Elite Tip One Focus on what is Obtainable

There are plenty of goals that you can achieve within Dark Moon so for small to normal alliances, it is important to focus on what is achievable. Here is what we know, the big kids are gonna be heading for the Impenetrable Fortress. That means that even though they start at level one they are going to be heading towards the middle. That means that often it is safer for the smaller groups to stay on the outside edge and stick to level 1 to 3 towers and temples. Trying to fight the mega alliances when your alliance does not have the capability to keep up will quickly burn out your players, let them fight each other.

Elite Tip Two Find fun and usable Strategies

I enjoy the battles over the Temples and Towers but when neither team can hold against the other it can come down to the wire in the battle. One strategy that has been used by many alliances in this circumstance (and one of my favorite strategies) is to allow the other team to hold the sanctuary until the last second and then knock them out. If the battle timer runs out and you are holding the tower or temple you win even if you did not hold for 15 minutes. There are some drawbacks to this strategy and ways around it, so hope that the opposing team has not figured those out!

Elite Tip Three Boost up those Neutral Kills

There is a very simple solution to boosting your neutral troop kills count even when you cannot find an unoccupied temple or tower. If you surrender your Territory you can then declare on it again, this means that the territory then has neutral troops in it again. Important Note: Many alliances choose to rally the Neutral troops to be sure that all of their players are getting points towards the Inferno and Alliance event. Happy Players who are getting points are more likely to support you.

Elite Tip Four Boost your PvP Kills

It is the middle of the night and there is nothing to do, right? Well maybe you can head over to Dark Moon, but your team is asleep? What will you do? Head over to the Unlimited War Zone. There are four of these that can be found at each of the corners of the map and here you can engage in PvP at any time. However, maybe scout out the area to make sure you will not be destroyed when you port in and get slapped by a big… bye-bye signets…

Elite Tip Five Do your Construction and Research on Dark Moon

I have a difficult time doing this because it is difficult to see the immediate rewards that we see when we do our Construction or Research during a Solo or Inferno event in our normal Kingdoms. However, all the research and construction you do on Dark Moon goes to a team goal that is giving rewards such as Dark Moon Coins and resources. These rewards are worth doing your research and construction there.

Elite Tip Six If you are an R4 or R5 Make sure you read our Dark Moon Guide for Leadership

Leadership is essential when it comes to Dark Moon. Not only do you need to know how the event works but you need the ability to keep your alliance focused on the bigger picture. If you are unable to do so then the Natives start getting restless and revolt. The ability to communicate, provide knowledge, and keep your alliance motivated is very important during this event.

Elite Tip Seven Scout the Map

Do not just set on any territory. You will need to look around and see who may be around. If you go the wrong direction you could run into an alliance that will squash you like little bugs and that is not only going to be discouraging but it is going to be costly to players who may be limited on the number of signets they are able to purchase.

Elite Tip Eight Be sure to Use Territory Shields Strategically

Yes, you can use territory shields, however, here is the kicker, the shields increase in price as you place more and once they are up you cannot connect to other territories from that territory. They may block your opponent from moving but they can also block you. You are also spending Alliance Signets when you place shields, so you want to be sure that you are using them strategically and wisely so you do not spend all your Alliance Signets shielding territories and then not be able to move.

Elite Tip Nine Work with the smaller Alliances surrounding you

Allies and friends can be made even within the confines of Dark Moon. Work with the Alliances surrounding you if you are running into some problematic spots or just wage all-out war, either option is gonna be fun!

Elite Tip Ten Have Fun

At the end of the day, it is a game. Have fun with your alliance, laugh if you get squashed like a bug, and do not stress. There is always tomorrow to figure out more strategies, and if you need more ideas be sure to hit us up in the Elite room and ask as many questions as you want. You never know what answer you will get.
